2017 Jelajah Wisata Lingga, Dabo Singkep

Arriving at Pulau Daik

My second international ride since Singapore. Well actually I've ride twice at Singapore. This time I was invited by fellow rider. The event was fully sponsored by the Lingga administration. All I had to bare expenses was my trip to Batam Island. The ride was in relation with Festival Gunung Daik, and a government programme called Visit Lingga. The main organisor as we far as I'm concerned was May Okatavia, a local, a fellow rider. She was the only liaison that deal most of the time with us.
While there are around 100 partcipants at the event, only around 40 cycle, which is quite a number of riders attended.
First day, as early at 4.30 am I rode from my house to Stulang Laut Ferry Terminal. it is only 6km from my house, so no sweat with that. Being early to arrive, I had time to have some breakfast and get some information about the ferry schedule. This was my first time to embark on a ferry to Batam Island. So I do not want to hassle around. Even the ticket counter is still not yet in operation until 6.00 am.
I was the second person in que to buy the ferry ticket. Bought to and fro, so I wont be to forget or even missed to buy ticket to get back to Johor Bahru. tickets total RM129.00.
As for me this was my first time to Batam, Dabo and Pulau Daik, Indonesia. The ferry journye takes around 2 hours to Batam Island. the first ferry, I was joined with other fellow riders, Suzie, Bernie and Waldan accompanied by his mother and sister. There are also other fellow riders which I'm not familiar with.
Arriving at Batam Center, the custom terminal, we push our bikes all the way to the parking lot, as a van was waiting for us to carry our bags. I did not pack a lot, so I can cycle with my bag on my back to the hotel, which is only 1km from Batam Center.
After waiting for three hours, as the room was not ready for us, we decided to have lunch. Other members decided to just walk and find eating outlet, me I cycle around for better choices of eating establishment.

Lepas masuk bilik, rilek jap pastu turun ler, pasal kang nak kayuh kat Batam Drak Park. Dah alang alang ada kat Batam ni, bule ler layan trail jap. Bernie kata member Batam, Gunawan nak join skali, so bule ler jadik guide kitaorang. Dari hotel Harmoni One ka trail lebih kurang 5km jer so bule ler kayuh jer gi sana.

Gunawan kata sampai kol 1600hrs, Bernie cam dah tak sabar dah so terus kayuh gi Drak Park, rider yang ikut, Bung ngan Waldan skali, so kitaorang skali ngan Gunawan 5 rider layan trail Drak Park. Mula cam merapu gakler nak sampai, pasal ikut map jer carik tempat. at last jumpa la jugak.. So jumpa Gunawan masa kat dalam trail. Tu pun pasal gua berenti tengok map. Ye laa.. masuk takder guide, merapu sikit ler. Gunawan sampai, dia jer laa kat depan, so yang lain tu ikut jer laa.Kira layan trail tak habis ler, pasal cuaca pun cam nak ujan.. lagi pun kalau layan abis kang petang dekat malam baru kuar.. so patah balik ler kuar trail.

early stages at Dabo Trail.. ujan ada renyai sikit
The second day, all of us went to Telaga Punggur Ferry Terminal, to continue or trip to Dabo Island. The organisor had chartered a ferry for our group only. this is convenient as the whole gang would take up the whole ferry seats. The ferry trip takes 4 hour to get to Dabo island, quite along ferry trip.
Reaching Dabo island, we continue a bus ride to the hotel. along the wa we stopped at Marquez Beach, as the beach is a popular spot for turtle laying egss. Since it was off season, we only watched the hacthlings in a small pool.

Ride by dates 13 Jul 2017

Since Reha is out of my life, I have more time to myself. Means I I have more time, piece of mind and more ride time to myself. Most of my ride updates were posted at Facebook. Since I have deactivate my Facebook account, I'll just update my blog.
Today did evening ride. Started at my house, took the quite and peaceful kampung route. Stop for early dinner at Nasi Padang, Taman Sultanah Aminah, Pasir Pelangi. After dinner, continue ride along Taman Sentosa and straight to my home.
Just a 10km ride, well, enough I guess, ad I will be riding again this late night.

My First International Ride Cap

Pulau Ubin Singapore, yup the destination for my first International Ride Cap. Not so much of an international level, but then again, it is outside of my country Malaysia.Thr ride was initiated by my fellow rider, Fauzi or well known as Bro Amar at Facebook. A one day trip, so hardly a tour ride. I ride from my house in Johor Bahru, met up with other riders at Stulang Laut. As early as 6.00 am I start riding and reached rendezvous point with four other riders.
We started riding at 6.45am heading to Tambak Johor, And after a long que and form filling, we ride cross heading to Singapore. Passing through Singapore Imigration, we met up with fellow riders from Singapore whose gladly volunteered to be our ride guide. As we had not had our breaksfat yet, we head on the nearest food stall at Woodlands. As usual, for me, since the Nasi Campur is already served, I fill my stomach with lunch.
The plan was to arrive at Changi Jetty at 9.00 am, and we had to ride roughly 40km. Well since of our riders is a slow lady rider, we reached the jetty at 12.30pm.

Puteri Harbour, Johor Bahru

Among the destination for cyclist around JB is the Puteri Harbour, situated at Nusajaya. Me with OJCT team member, Bro Amar and Hur Jun start off from Dataran Bandaraya. as for Hur Jun this is the second night for him as he has rode here last night. Well being an avid rider, he takes any opportunity to ride. My ride today is the 1987 Look. Yup the bike is still around. I really have a special attachment with this bike. Fisrtly because it was bought by my father as a gift when I enroll at ITM Shah Alam. At time I did not asked for the bike, he surprises me with the bike when I came home from JB. cant really remember the date though, but still can remember my excitement on that day. Father always knows what I like.

Ok. back to the ride. We start off, around 0900hrs, taking the seaside route and the Nusajaya hiway. the only hills are the flyovers. Well, not very challengging if you are a regular with the route, as for me, my smoking habits really saya something about the hills. each and every time I climb those hills, I always pledge no to smoke, and as always, after the torture is over, yes you guessed it, reach for my cancer stcik.

Upon reaching Puteri harbour, we came acroos another three riders who are heading the same destination, so we decided to tag along. not much to chat about aourselves, as we were to busy focusing on the dark road, and some off road too. They took us on an alternative route heading towards Puteri Harbour. According to Hur Jun, it was a short cut, and it was short, as by you realise it, you already reached the Puteri Harbour. As the other riders continue their rides, my team member, had to take time and enjoy the scene, and of course photographs.
Then we ride to Anjung Nusajaya for light supper. So far we rode around 24km, Hur Jun is a teacher can saya a young lad and a strong rider. Bro Amar, as we called it in his wassap tagline, also a strong rider, It takes all my effort just trying to keep up with them. That the problem when you stopped riding for a while then trying to start back takes a lot of ride time to recover my full level. Need to get back my top performance in 2010.
After a quick stop at the famous palace gate, we head back to Dataran JB. Well, today I drove to Dataran from home, so no rush for me.

OJCT

Its official now, my newest cycling club. OJCT otherwise known as Orang Johor Cycling Team. I first meet the leader, Arshata at his house when I'm interested in his event T-shirt. After a brief encounter, things went well, and I started joing him and his team mates cycling. A mix type of rider with different levels of fitness. OJCT has been around for quite some time, I guess this is my official announcement that I joined OJCT. Well, with the team jersey and all.
I'l; be posting more and a lot, since OJCT organises a lot of events, mainly in Johor Bahru.
For now, will update later though, have to prepare for tonight's ride.

At last, my old school is organising a bike event. The event is said in conjunction with my school  coming to the age of 100th , the Centenary Celebration, as they called it. I was so excited in anticipation. Not to mention proud to be wearing a bike jersey bearing my ex-school.

Today I'll be riding my Fre-Flex. The organisor tries to do something different by introducing urban trail to the jamboree. The event consists of several events. Fixie Challenge and Road Bike Challenge.

Iskandar Johor Mega Ride 2013

The numerous events booming in Johor, Iskandar Johor Mega Ride boasts as the grandest event for 2013, with the main Lucky Draw Prize, a Viva Car, sure to attract quite a number or riders. As for me, its just a chance for me to make up some time and commitment to ride. as long as the trail is good, the jersey is just a bonus.
As usual early morning as at 0500hrs, I've already up and packing my stuff into my car. Reached Kota Iskandar at 0630, only a few riders were at the parking area. Since its still dark, I could not see the registration and starting line, so had to move around to find the place. With only one secrateriate on duty at the registration counter, with several eager riders, I pity the secretariate. After taking my goodies, which is only the jersey and my plate, went to the food court and had my nescafe. Its still early and the flag off is shceduled at 08300hrs. I entered the release area at 0730hrs, so had to wait for one hour in the middle of the  morning sun. its still ok cause there's always friendly fellow riders who loved to kill time by chatting away. hence, new friends though. I'm not looking forward to this jamboree maybe because jamboree is not my thing.Riding with a big crowd, with all kinds of riders, there are those who thinks that they are in a cycling competition, and there are those who ride simply just to tag along with friends.
As the whistle blows, fronts row riders sped off ignoring the instructions earlier not to overtake the saftey car, as it was a roll-off start off. Well, good luck not being hit by other traffic users. Me, as usual, I also sped off trying to keep my cadence. But it only took me to checkpoint 2, then only I started to tuned down my cadence. Sure enough, after checkpoint 2, I started to cramp. Well, of course cramps due to no training and not enough sleep. Its ok, there's a chicken loop, so I took it. but the loop was short and the ride continues to check point 3. Arrived at the finishing line at 1140hrs, with finisher number 910. After a liitle break, I head on home, did not even take my free lunch and did not wait for the lucky draw. Overall, the trail was good, for beginners it is a good trail for speed training. And as for the hard core riders, it will be a boring trail, as there are no technical route whatsoever.

IPD JBU's First Bike Event

Increasing awareness and interest in cycling has becoming noticeable among government servants. Its a good sign and a good start for cycling community in Johor Bahru. For the first time, Ibu Pejabat Daerah Johor Bahru Utara, also known as IPD JBU, organised a community ride.
Most of the riders are police personnel which are new to cycling. With free helmets as goodies, definately attracts non-cyclists to join in the fun. As for me, its a joy ride, where friends gets along and have fun. Thats all. Its ok, because the purpose of the ride was to make good public relations with the general public especially the Skudai area. With the suports of the top brass of IPD JBU, I'm sure they will be more active in cycling in the future.

OK, enough with the campaign. Lets talk about the ride itself. Joy Ride. with only 20km covering the area of Taman Tun Ungku Aminah, Skudai, the events sure raises the residents eyebrow. There were only around I think 100-150 riders, but it creates an impression. With non riders participating, sure gives me a giggle when they know now how difficult it was and  the necessity  of  proper riding techniques. Hopefully this will not be their last endevour in cycling.
Our first check point was an old folks home. I really did not catch the name of the home, yup, too busy looking for banana and mineral water I guess. Continue the ride around Taman Ungku Tun Amina or TUTA they called it, I feel like a Rela Personel doing a security patrol or something. But it was fun to ride around housing areas with the police sirens all the way. Sure to wake the neighbours.
The next check point is at a Dewan in one of the housing area. with speeches all around, then we continue to our last chech point which the Balai Polis TUTA. here we had some lunch. Mee goreng, quite tasty though. Compliments to the catering service. With stomach full, we end our ride back to IPD JBU. after a short goodbye to everybody, we depart ways.

Scorpion Army Aviation 2013 Jamboree

Need to trim thoes abs.
As early as 0530hrs, rise and shine, all geared up for my trip to Kluang. The plan was I am to drive to Kluang with my fellow rider, Bahri. So had to pick him up at his house at Stulang Laut.
After setting up the Rear Rack and bikes mounted, we head to Kem Mahkota, Kluang, Johor. Took the PLUS hiway as we do not want to be late. Reached Kluang, after a short stop at 7Eleven, we entered into Kem Mahkota. We were among the earliest to arrived, so got my self a good parking spot.
Met with my Team Mates from Team Mercury. So officially this is my first ride with them since I moved to Johor Bahru. There new members of Team Mercury which I'm not familiar with, that ok, we are riders, that important. The starting line was at a grass landing field, so it was quite a sight. Impressive actually, as many of the riders had the oppurnuty to be in the front line.
Me and Ismanor, the founder of Team Mercury.
Its good to involve in such a jamboree. All the finishers were given medals imprint with the placing. For me, I only manage the number 762. Its really disappointing to see even beginner riders can overtake me. Its ok, since I suffered some minor cramps on my calf and thigh. The only personal record that I achieved was that I managed not to stop for cancer break or resting. So, this is the first time in my experience riding in jamborees, I did not make any stops.
Even at the checks points, The marshals manage to put the stickers while I was riding.
It was after passing check point two that my thigh caught the cramp, so had to pedal slow and crank up granny gear. The good news is there are quite few medical personnel, so thanks for the cramps spray, as I called it.
It really helps for the next 20 minutes of riding. The trail was a Speed Trail. It was good for beginners to test their endurance, and for those pro and hard core riders, an oppurtunity to metted out theis guts against each others. Annuar Manan, our National Rider was also presence and ride. So you could only guess whats its like at the front line riders. All trying their best to match Annuar Manan. For me, once the cramps came in, I enjoy the ride with an occasional, makan kacang sambil kayuh. I considered my self lucky as I did not suffer any serious injuries that follows from the carmps.
Towards the finishing, we had to ride again through the grass landing field. Its such a turn off, when you can see the finishing but you cannot sprint to it. The after ride lunch was pretty good. So, had time to enjoy it while watching tje arm-wrestling competition on the stage. After the lucky draw, me and Bahri head back to Johor Bahru. It was a good day and a good Jamboree, or shall we call it Jamborace. Congratulations to the organisor.
